Why Floating?

Before I had kids, I would dream of vacationing in exotic places. Now, I dream about a few hours of alone time with no one asking me questions or calling Mommy, Mommy or requesting to make them food. What used to seem like a really boring way to spend time alone in a quiet place now seems like a luxury or a dream vacation to me!

Don’t get me wrong I love my family, but a few hours of quiet time really helps me to recharge. In the last 4 years, I’ve been struggling to manage stress effectively in my busy life and searching to achieve the most relaxing experience. I’ve been looking for something to help me reconnect with myself and calm the craziness! A teacher recommended meditation. But like many other people I found it hard to do. It can seem very odd to just sit and listen to the chatter in my own head! Besides, it takes years of practice to be able to achieve the state of meditation.

After years of hearing reasons why it’s hard to meditate, I heard about a new technique called floating and decided to give it a try. My experience with floating was life-changing! Most noticeably, I felt very relaxed and calm even after returning to the beautiful chaos of my home and children. Although, the first time was the most difficult but the benefits got better and better with each session. I found out there are no float facilities near us, so it was difficult to make it a routine activity! I thought, I must make it accessible.

Floating involves laying down in buoyant water saturated with salt in a soundproof pod or room. It has gained popularity among those who struggle with stress and people with various health problems. Why is it beneficial? The basic concept is that floating reduces external stimuli as mush as possible to help the body achieve a natural restorative state. Some compare the experience to meditation or yoga.
